Hey, I’m Dom; a movie poster artist with a passion for creating hand-painted posters.
As a kid I was obsessed with horror films; stemming from when I watched the original A Nightmare On Elm Street film when I was just six years old. I remember although I was engulfed with fear, I was so intrigued by what was happening on the screen that I couldn’t look away. It was at this very moment my love for horror was born.
I love horror films, I love creating artwork. Merge the two together and there’s nothing but pure enjoyment there for me. I began creating hand painted posters inspired by my favourite horror films during the first UK coronavirus lockdown; it has since become something I have completely fallen in love with doing. The paintings are made using acrylic paint on paper.
With each poster I paint, I aim to create an essence of the movie bursting onto a sheet of paper. I'm influenced by the old school, ‘retro’ movie posters from the 70’s and 80’s as well as old and contemporary fine art painters. Notable artists that have influenced my work over the years include Bob Peak, Matthew Peak, Drew Struzan, Francis Bacon, Gustav Klimt, Zak Smith.
I am constantly experimenting and forcing myself to stay outside of my comfort zone when creating new artwork. I’m filled with extreme excitement with each newly finished painting; I absolutely love seeing how each piece has developed on from the previous. I sincerely hope those looking at my work enjoy looking at it as much as I do making it!
